About

I come from a place in Maryland about ten miles north of Washington, DC, but by choice and by circumstance, I have spent most of my adult life in New England. My personal interests and professional abilities are similarly layered. My design interest began as a student editor’s necessary chore, and became the bread of my professional life. I value the written word, and ideas expressed in language, but I am equally drawn to the problem of presenting those words and ideas in visual form.

I studied English and landscape history at Williams College, in Western Massachusetts, then stayed in the area for several years, working in the college’s Instructional Technology group and living in the town as a full-time resident.

I have been employed as a web developer, an instructional technologist, and a researcher for an environmental education project, always in positions that focused on the tools and methods of visual communication. I went back to school for graphic design, in RISD‘s graduate GD program, and finished my degree in June 2006.
