Antique photographic processes are sown with connotations and historical associations, but they might filter the windshield images and create a new, less-identifiable voice, one more based in memory and farther from the present. I have generally studied distance in terms of spatial perspective, but with this project, I wanted to move contemporary images farther away in time, into some part of a subjective past. There are elements of the New South in these prints – and also signs of the Old South.
